My name is Fred and sometimes I blog.

Hi Tom and all, my name is Sheri. I am expecting that Learn 2.1 will be a fun extension of 2.0. We'll be learning all types of exciting skills that we can use in our daily lives. There's nothing more exciting than running across a Web app that allows you to track some mundane task - like calorie counting (which I find fascinating - it's all in the numbers Tom, all in the numbers!)

Another fascinating part of this process, is reading what your peers are writing.

Web 3.0: It's alive! Alive!

My interpretation of Web 3.0 is virtual tools that maintain an updated presence without human intervention. I suppose it does require human intervention, since it was a human that programmed it to act that way. I did take a look at the wikipedia entry in google, just to see what they (who are they that penned this, and why should I trust them?)are saying. Anyways, in reading the wiki entry, I was delighted to see the term "Semantic Web". Which basically means, coding it right and responsibly, so that all can use it. That's a simple way to say it (if you'd like I could get more complex) but really, let's keep it nice and simple.

I grabbed this quote from Eric Schmidt, as I agree with his thinking.
"But if I were to guess what Web 3.0 is, I would tell you that it's a different way of building applications... My prediction would be that Web 3.0 will ultimately be seen as applications which are pieced together. There are a number of characteristics: the applications are relatively small, the data is in the cloud, the applications can run on any device, PC or mobile phone, the applications are very fast and they're very customizable. Furthermore, the applications are distributed virally: literally by social networks, by email. You won't go to the store and purchase them... That's a very different application model than we've ever seen in computing."

Kinda sounds like a mash-up on a huge level.

Who Doesn't Like Plinko?

Okay - so I added another little Google Gadget to my blog - it's the dearly loved plinko game. Enjoy!

Feed the Fish

Looking for something to do? Then feed my new fish. It's really easy - just point and click in their pond.

Virtual Motivators? How Motivating!

I started poking around at some of the sites listed and immediately fell in love with Trainco. Truth be told right now I'm on a little diet. Trying to lose that vacation weight. So, I started my account and posted my daily calorie counts and work out info. Yep, it was that easy! And you know what? I feel surprisingly motivated. I'll admit I was starting to feel the fade on the old calorie count but now I feel refreshed and recharged.

I did not go into catster or dogster because I've been there before, but at one time there was a site called enemyster - not sure if it's still up and running. Not sure how many people would sign up to be your enemy - and if you have that many enemies then you probably wouldn't want to tell the world - or would you?

PopUrls

I decided to check out PopUrls and immediately got sucked into the site - especially the video section. I will definitely be heading back to this site!

Appity-Apps

Library Apps are very much part of my life, as are general apps. What is my favorite library App? Ugh! That's a hard one! I guess it's easiest to say that I really don't have a favorite app. I experiment constantly with library apps. So if you don't mind I think I'll restructure your question, "What is your favorite thing to do with an app?" - then I guess I'd answer something like this, "My favorite thing to do with apps is to play with them. To see how how the Library can benefit from them, but also to see how I can use it in my own personal life."

I guess since my position at the Library is so heavily involved with web apps, by the end of the day my head is generally full.
